Prep time: 15 minutes | Cook time: 20 minutes | Serves 4
Ingredients :
1 cup diced apple (about 1 medium apple)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
½ package (1 sheet) frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 large egg, beaten
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
Directions :
1. In a medium bowl, stir together the apple, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, lemon juice, and flour.
2. Lightly flour a cutting board. Unfold the puff pastry sheet onto the board. Using a rolling pin, gently roll the dough to smooth out the folds, seal any tears, and form it into a square. Cut the dough into four squares.
3. Scoop a quarter of the apple mixture into the center of each puff pastry square and spread it evenly in a triangle shape over half the pastry, leaving a border of about ½ inch around the edges of the pastry. Fold the pastry diagonally over the filling to form triangles. With a fork, crimp the edges to seal them. Place the turnovers on the sheet pan, spacing them evenly.
4. Cut two or three small slits in the top of each turnover. Brush with the egg. Sprinkle evenly with the granulated sugar.
5. Select BAKE, set temperature to 350°F, and set time to 20 minutes. Select START/PAUSE to begin preheating.
6. Once the unit has preheated, slide the sheet pan into the oven.
7. After 10 to 12 minutes, remove the pan from the oven. Check the pastries; if they are browning unevenly, rotate the pan. Return the pan to the oven and continue cooking.
8. When cooking is complete, remove the pan from the oven. The turnovers should be golden brown and the filling bubbling. Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving (the filling will be very hot).
